We couldn't be more thrilled to announce that Pat and Lisa Traver of Montgomery County, PA will be bringing our signature seafood boils to yet another coastal state. Best of all (and fully in keeping with our own roots) Pat and Lisa's decision to bring Outer Banks Boil Company to New Jersey is fully steeped in family.
Denise Khouri, Outer Banks Boil Company's CMO (known as "Mom" to the entire extended Outer Banks Boil Company family) sat down with Pat & Lisa to learn a little bit more.
Denise: First of all, it's so great to get to know you! where are you both from?
Lisa: We currently live in a suburb of Philadelphia called Blue Bell, but I'm originally from Havertown in Delco, and Pat is from Newfoundland, PA.
Tell us a little more about yourselves and your family.
Lisa: We met at the University of Scranton (Go Royals!) and after graduation, we lived in Conshohocken for a few years, then moved to Blue Bell about 11 years ago. We have 4 children (Matthew - 13, Claire - 11, Michael - 8, & William - 6) who love vacations with our large extended families in both OBX and the Jersey Shore. Pat works as an architect for a clean room solutions company & I'm a project manager at a pharmaceutical research company.
How did you first hear about Outer Banks Boil Company?
Pat: We had a friend who vacationed in OBX and while she was there, had a Signature Boil for her parents' anniversary. The following year, when our big crew vacationed in OBX, we did a Boil for Lisa's birthday. Everyone just loved it and we agreed it should be an annual tradition!
Have you had both versions? Catering? Takeout?
Pat (laughing): Only one catered Boil and we were hooked!!
What’s your favorite food item in the boil?
Lisa: Mussels
Pat: Shrimp and scallops
What's your best boil memory?
Lisa: Learning what a Boil was! Who's ever heard of a Boil?!? Honestly - having a delicious meal made for us, at our house, not having to line up sitters for the kids or worry about driving, was HEAVEN!
Why the Jersey shore?
Pat: Boils are FUN and the Jersey Shore is FUN! We just felt that Outer Banks Boil Company's product and feel really meshed with the Jersey Shore. People have been going to the Jersey Shore with their families for generations and the number of celebrations that happen at The Shore every year can't even be quantified. People love dining out on vacation but having the option of a Boil at home with family & friends will be an awesome addition. We think people at the Jersey Shore will embrace adding Outer Banks Boil Company nights to their "must do's" year after year!
What is your connection to the jersey shore?
Lisa: Both of us vacationed at the Jersey Shore in our childhood and have great memories. In recent years, our big vacations have been to Corolla, OBX with anywhere from 20-50 of our closest family members but we still enjoy getting away to our house in Sea Isle City and spending time at the Jersey Shore as often as we can.
What's your targeted opening Date?
Pat: Likely Spring of 2022 but we're working to see if we can bring this delicious treat to the Jersey Shore sooner!
Is there a general area of the Jersey Shore that you're thinking of?
Pat: We think people in so many Jersey Shore towns would enjoy this so we're on the hunt for the perfect spot but probably somewhere in the South Jersey Shore area.
Of all the franchise and business opportunities out there, what made you choose Outer Banks Boil Company.
Pat: Boils are something we'd like to enjoy when we're at the Jersey Shore so we figured, "why not make it happen for everyone!" After searching around and testing for ourselves, we determined that Outer Banks Boil Company has the best product. Both the takeout pots and the catered boils are items that we know Jersey Shore people will enjoy. We know we can find the help to make this a success at the Jersey Shore and we look forward to the excitement when this is rolled out!
